Most adults in our culture are in a relationship – or aspire to be in one. To choose someone to share one’s life with is not an easy decision. Who has matching personalities, shares their views on life and feels romantic love for each other?

For this work of art, the artist photographed different men and women. At first they are on their own, standing alone in a room. The viewers start to match them in their mind. How could you find out who belongs to whom? At this stage, it can only be decided on the basis of outward appearances. This superficiality is part of our reality and plays an important role when choosing a partner. “Couples” enacts and further questions this process. In the end, the solution is revealed: The couples have found each other and the viewers might have to review their conclusion.
